However, Max Behrman, Scott's father, who is willing to be separated from his son again, opposes the plan. He believes that if Scott pursues a responsible life, working in the family business, the attacks will not recur.

Finally, when a job as a bus driver with a private school becomes available, and Kiley is called on to give his friend a physical examination for the institution, he is forced to choose between his duty as a doctor and his obligation to a friend.

Dinty Gallagher refuses to give up his regimen of diet pills and steam baths, even after having fainting spells.
