'The Simpsons' is popular, that's for sure, but popular enough to sustain an entire channel?
According to SlashFilm, News Corp.'s Chase Carey, the company's chief operating officer, recently discussed the possibility of a 'Simpsons' channel.
While speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media Communications & Entertainment Conference in Beverly Hills, Carey said the company has had meetings about ways to increase revenue from the long-running series while capitalizing on the show's large episode library. A digital channel has been discussed, but is far from official.
Now approaching Season 23 (premieres Sun., Sept. 25, 8PM ET on Fox), 'The Simpsons' is extremely close to producing an astounding 500 episodes.
SlashFilm did some math -- for argument's sake they decided to just work with 500 episodes of 'The Simpsons -- and with commercials, it would take 11 days before a rerun would air.
