Fox is launching the Zooey Deschanel charm offensive a little early: Starting ... now, Deschanel's hilarious new comedy 'New Girl' is available for early viewing via a free iTunes download or video on demand with certain cable providers.
That means you can catch the sitcom's premiere an entire two weeks early! And if iTunes isn't your thing, you can watch the 'New Girl' pilot streaming on Hulu or Fox.com beginning Tue., Sept. 13. Just make sure you watch before the show's broadcast premiere on Sept. 20 -- all online viewing options will be taken down on the 19th, and will be back online Sept. 28.
When asked by Variety about all these sneak peaks potentially hurting the audience for the 'New Girl' premiere, Fox Marketing and Communications President Joe Earley said he thinks the word of mouth will be so strong that it won't matter. "Hopefully, with that echo effect, we can bring in more viewers to the premiere than the number we've potentially lost for the first week," he told Variety.
And although Fox tried a similar marketing approach with last year's biggest (critically acclaimed) flop, 'Lone Star,' don't think that 'New Girl' will fare the same. Proof Fox believes in the show: The network gave 'New Girl' the prime post-'Glee' time slot. Premiering after Fox's biggest show? Not too shabby.
'New Girl' premieres Tue., Sept. 20 at 9PM ET on Fox.
