USA Axes Fairly Legal After Two Seasons

Sarah Shahi

Case dismissed.

USA has canceled legal dramedy Fairly Legal after two seasons, Deadline reports.

The cancellation comes a day after USA also killed buddy cop comedy Common Law. Fairly Legal, which premiered in January 2011, starred Sarah Shahi (Life) as a successful mediator who must work for her stepmother after her father/boss suddenly passes away. The series underwent a major overhaul for its sophomore season, including a showrunner switch and the addition of a new love interest for Kate, Ryan Johnson.

The show averaged 4.58 million viewers in Season 1 and 2.7 million viewers in Season 2, which wrapped in June.

News of Fairly Legal's demise comes a day after it was announced that Shahi had booked a recurring role on NBC's freshman drama Chicago Fire. The same thing happened earlier this week when first-year comedy Common Law was canceled days after news broke that Warren Kole had booked a big recurring role on Fox's upcoming thriller The Following.

"Sarah Shahi is undoubtedly a star and we're thrilled she'll be joining our sister network NBC on Chicago Fire," USA said in a statement obtained by Deadline. "We are proud of Fairly Legal and thank the very talented cast and crew for two fantastic seasons."
