But during Season 3, it's all about the blossoming relationship between Stefan Salvatore and the evil vampire-werewolf hybrid Klaus. And this time, it might be true love.
At least that's what star Paul Wesley told AOL TV during a break on the 'Vampire Diaries' set earlier this month. We also chatted up the actor about how Damon feels being stuck back in Mystic Falls watching over Elena while Stefan is out ripping it up.
How does Damon feel about this whole Stefan situation?
He's happy as a clam! What do you mean? He gets Elena!
Oh, really? Because that's not what Ian Somerhalder thinks -- he said Damon is pissed.
What do you mean? He's so happy! Come on! He gets the girl, he gets the Salvatore Mansion ... No, I mean, look. Ian wants to play dark and sort of -- Ian wants to play Ripper Damon always, but I explained to him that the characters are brothers who [switch sides sometimes]. If you remember in the 1860s it's like, he was the good guy, I was the one who convinced him to become a vampire. Then he went rogue and I was the good guy, and it's kind of just like these brothers who are forever connected. They love each other, but they're both living with this disease and the evolution of that disease is cyclical.
So how does Klaus play into influencing Stefan's behavior?
They definitely develop a bit of a bond, a kinship or whatever. But that's due to some things that are revealed to Stefan. But initially it's a bit of a -- Stefan feels a bit like he's a slave to Klaus and he's really sort of indignant and disappointed. He doesn't want to be there. But as their journey progresses, their relationship blossoms. They fall in love! No, I'm just kidding. [Laughs]
I always joked: what if we just opened up Season 3 with Klaus and Stefan living in an apartment, and Stefan was messy, and Klaus was like, "Stefan! Use a coaster!" And Stefan was like, "Oh, Klaus!" And they were like the Odd Couple, and he was like, "Stop your snoring!" I'd be a fan of that.
You should pitch it!
I should pitch it to ABC Family or something. That'd be pretty great.
I'd watch it.
Thank you! But you'd watch anything, wouldn't you? Because it's your job.
Tell us: Would you watch a Klaus/Stefan Odd Couple spinoff? Because we're so there.
