The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies: Death Brings Out a Very New and Different Alicia

Date March 24, 2014

In the wake of Sunday's jaw-dropping, heartbreaking and completely unforeseen death, The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies fielded fan questions on the show's official Facebook page Monday.

"I think this death brings out a very new and different Alicia," Margulies teased when asked about how Will's death will impact her character going forward.

Margulies, who also serves as a producer on the show, said she had plenty of notice that her former TV boyfriend-turned-bitter-work-rival (Josh Charles) wouldn't make it out of Season 5 alive. "[The writers] ran it by me first before bringing it to the network, and Josh and I both thought it was a brilliant idea," she said.

Can The Good Wife survive after Sunday's shocking death?

Although he may be gone, Margulies said that fans "will see and hear Will all through the episode." She also added that viewers will be able to "see what [Alicia] really thinks about Will. And bring tissues."

Margulies said her character will get closure "eventually," but it will take some time. However, she hopes that her character might be able to move on to a new love. (Sorry, Peter). "I hope so, don't we all wish that for anyone who has lost a love in their life? That being said, it will take a long time," she said.

However, Margulies was insistent that her character and Will would have never ended up together even if he had lived. "I think the reason everyone wanted Will and Alicia together was because they weren't together," she said. "I actually never thought they could make it, too much baggage on both sides."

Margulies ended the chat by encouraging fans, again, to tune in Sunday. "We are all very touched by the reaction, and for next week's show I highly suggest a box of tissues by your side."

The Good Wife airs Sundays at 9/8c on CBS.
