TCA Awards Nominate 'Justified,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'Parks and Recreation' and 'Community' Critics tend to rave about dramas like 'Boardwalk Empire,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'The Good Wife,' 'Mad Men' and 'Justified,' so it was no surprise to learn that all those awards picked up multiple nominations from the Television Critics Association, which announced its TCA Awards nominees Monday.

The Television Critics Association is an organization of more than 200 television critics and journalists, and this year, the group made some pretty unimpeachable choices.

On the comedy side, 'Parks and Recreation,' 'Louie,' 'Modern Family' and 'Community' picked up multiple nominations.

Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman of 'Parks and Recreation' got Outstanding Achievement in Comedy nominations, and Offerman will also emcee the awards show, which takes place this year at the Beverly Hilton on Aug. 6. As a member of the Television Critics Association, I not only heartily endorse the choice of Offerman as emcee, I hope we get an advanced tutorial on Ron Swanson's Pyramid of Greatness.

'Louie,' which returns June 23 on FX, picked up nominations for star Louis C.K. and a best comedy nomination. Danny Pudi and 'Community' received nods as well. Rounding out the best comedy category are 'Modern Family' (for which Ty Burrell also got an acting nomination) and 'Raising Hope.'

'Boardwalk Empire' received a nomination as best new program and as Program of the Year. Steve Buscemi also received an acting nomination for his work as Nucky Thompson.

'Justified' and 'Game of Thrones' picked up four drama nominations each. 'Justified' nods went to Margo Martindale and Timothy Olyphant, and the show was nominated in the best drama category as well as the Program of the Year category. Peter Dinklage picked up an acting nomination for 'GoT,' and the show got best new program, best drama and Program of the Year nominations.

You may well ask, where are Emmy favorites such as 'Glee,' 'House,' 'Dexter,' '30 Rock,' 'Law & Order: SVU' and 'Big Bang Theory'?

Well, the TCA Awards have given statues to several of those shows in the past -- 'Glee' and 'Big Bang's' Jim Parsons are quite recent winners -- but, unlike the Emmys, there's a bit more turnover in these categories year to year. And critics, who watch these shows week in and week out, are less likely to keep rewarding shows with rather inconsistent track records.

All in all, I think the roster of nominees below is more than respectable, and I'm going to have a tough time picking winners when I fill out my ballot. Although 'Downton Abbey' is looking good in the Miniseries category.
