Supernatural Showrunner Switcheroo! Carver Returns to Step In for Gamble - Today's News: Our Take

Date April 05, 2012

No one is ever truly gone in the world of Supernatural, and this rule seems to apply to showrunners as well.

Sera Gamble, who's served as co-showrunner with Robert Singer for the past two seasons of The CW drama, will be stepping down at the end of the season, making way for Being Human's Jeremy Carver, TVGuide.com has confirmed. Deadline first reported the news.

Exclusive: Felicia Day to hack into Supernatural

And although fans will be sad to see Gamble go -- she's been with the series since its inception and stepped in for creator Eric Kripke at the beginning of Season 6 -- Carver is no stranger to Supernatural. He came on as a writer and story editor in 2007 and moved up to co-producer in Season 5. During his three seasons on the show, he wrote or co-wrote several episodes including "A Very Supernatural Christmas," "The Rapture" and "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid."

He left in 2010 to work with his wife Anna Fricke on Syfy's American adaptation of the British series Being Human, which also deals with supernatural themes. Carver will still hold the executive producer title on Being Human, but Fricke will be running the show by herself.

Supernatural, which airs on Fridays at 9/8 on The CW, has not yet been renewed for an eighth season, but Carver's return and reliably strong ratings indicate it will come back.

What do you think about the changing of the guard? Are you happy Carver is back?
