The macho, male-oriented network, known for shows like Bar Rescue and Ink Master, announced Mondaythat Kingsley will star in the upcoming Tut, a six-hour event series about Ancient Egypt's youngest and most famous Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Kingsley will play the Grand Vizier to King Tut, an adviser whose position gives him an incredible amount of power.

Out and proud celebrities

"Tut is the biggest and most ambitious project in Spike's history," said Spike TV executive vice president Sharon Levy. "Who better to lead the cast than one of the greatest actors of our generation—Ben Kingsley. The character he plays, Ay, is the true power behind the Tutankhamun throne. We are so fortunate to have an actor of Ben Kingsley's stature bring this character to life for Spike."

Tut, which is being filmed in Morocco and Canada, will premiere on Spike in 2015. It's also the network's first scripted event series in eight years.
