The sketch comedy program SCTV ran in Canada from 1976-1984, but it wasn’t imported stateside until May 16, 1981. The series was a parody of local Canadian TV stations with comic references to a variety of different shows. The original SCTV cast consisted of John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Harold Ramis and Dave Thomas. All were original members of the Second City comedy troup as well as writers on the show. One of the most popular sketches from SCTV, Bob & Doug Mackenzie, was spun off into record albums and even a feature film called Strange Brew.
