'Pacific Rim's' Robert Maillet joins Guillermo del Toro's FX Pilot

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Guillermo del Toro's drama series pilot for FX has found its big bad.

Robert Maillet has been cast as "The Master," an ancient vampire. He's described as an "evil that has nested in secret and darkness, feasting on human suffering until now, emerging from the shadows to force a new world order."

Maillet can be seen in theatres starting Friday in del Toro-directed "Pacific Rim." His other movie credits include "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters," "Sherlock Holmes" and "300."

Fans may remember the Canadian actor from his stint as a professional wrestler with the WWF named Kurrgan the Interrogator from 1997-1999. More recently, he has appeared on "Transporter: The Series," "Once Upon a Time," and "Merlin."

He joins Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin and Richard Samuel on the project from co-writer/director del Toro and co-writer Chuck Hogan, which is based on their novel trilogy. Carlton Cuse ("Bates Motel," "Lost") is executive producing the pilot and will become showrunner if the vampire series gets picked up.

"The Strain" follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City, as he and his team investigate what appears to be an outbreak of vampirism. They soon need to fight for the fate of humanity itself.

Maillet is represented by Characters Talent Agency.
