Summer TV episodes Usually, TV takes a summer vacation (hence the programming dead zone we're currently enduring). But occasionally, our favorite sitcoms take us with them to the beach when they return in the fall.

To honor Lady Liberty, AOL TV rounded up a list of our absolute favorite summer TV episodes -- the ones that remind you of the beach, of fireworks, of hanging out with friends, of that time you dug a hole out of your basement with a miniature Statue of Liberty.

Though we encourage you to spend your July 4th outside, preferably grilling and/or swimming, marathoning these summer-themed TV episodes indoors with the AC on full blast is an acceptable alternative. After the jump, AOL TV's list of our favorite quintessentially summer TV episodes.

'Sex and the City'
Season 2 (1999): 'Twenty-Something Girls vs. Thirty-Something Women'
When Carrie & co. decided to high-tail it to the Hamptons for a nice relaxing summer weekend, it turned into an all-out war between their (more) mature priorities and the hard-partying, man-stealing ways of the 20-something girls -- including Big's new lady Natasha (Bridget Moynahan) in her first appearance on the show. A highlight: Charlotte getting crabs -- and not the East coast delicacy kind -- from her younger summer fling.

'Friends'
Season 4 (1997): 'The One With the Jellyfish'
We all know the old wives' tale about what to do when someone is stung by a jellyfish and immediate medical attention isn't available, right? Right. Let's just say that even before they started dating, Chandler and Monica got intimate during their beach vacation. Also in the obligatory Hamptons-set episode: Ross and Rachel got back together (but only because he accidentally took responsibility for their breakup).
--Jean Bentley

'Seinfeld'
Season 5 (1994): 'The Hamptons'
When Jerry goes on vacation in the Hamptons, where practically all New York City residents escape their busy lives, naturally things go haywire. Shrinkage, ugly babies and topless women. That pretty much sums up summer right there, doesn't it?
--Chris Harnick

'The Wonder Years'
Season 6 (1993): 'Summer'
Just because it's summertime doesn't mean awesomeness is guaranteed: Kevin fights with his Dad, quits his job and leaves home on a quest for self-discovery, hoping to reunite with Winnie at the country club where she works. He soon discovers she's dating the head lifeguard, loses all his money and car at a poker game and slouches back home, defeated. Heartbreak and poverty are as American as fireworks and apple pie, right? Happy 4th, guys!
--Alex Moaba

'Pete & Pete'
Season 2 (1994): 'Grounded for Life'
Little Pete loved the Fourth of July fireworks so much that he escaped his month-long grounding sentence to see them by digging a tunnel from his basement to the front yard using only a miniature Statue of Liberty. If that doesn't embody the spirit of Independence Day, nothing does.
--Jean Bentley

'Saved By the Bell'
Season 3 (1991): 'Fourth of July'
When the entire gang took summer jobs at the Malibu Sands Beach Club -- except Lisa, who was a member there, of course -- Zack butted heads with his boss, Mr. Carosi (Ernie Sabella), while he was falling hard for the boss' daughter Stacey (Leah Remini). The Miss Liberty Pageant was a personal favorite, the pinnacle of Zack's single-guy flirtations. By the end of the episode, Zack was single no longer.
