Nobel Prize-Winning Novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez Dead at 87

Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the Nobel Prize-winning Columbian novelist known for One Hundred Years of Solitude, has died, according to the New York Times. He was 87.

The author was hospitalized earlier this month for infections in his lung and urinary tract, according to CNN. He was recovering at home when he passed on Thursday.

One of the most recognized Latin writers known for the use of magical realism, Marquez won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1982. His novel One Hundred Years of Solitudehas sold more than 50 million copies in more than 25 languages. He's also known for Love in the Time of Cholera, Chronicle of Death Foretold and Autumn of the Patriarch, among other works.

Marquez is survived by his wife and two sons.
