NBC Picks Up White House and Justin Kirk Comedies to Series

NBC's 2012-2013 TV lineup is going to the dogs, the cats... and the White House?

NBC picked up the Presidential family comedy 1600 Pennand the Justin Kirk-led sitcom, Animal Practice, to series.

NBC orders Ryan Murphy comedy and J.J. Abrams action drama

From Modern Family's Jason Winer and Book of Mormon star Josh Gad, 1600 Penn takes a behind-the-scenes look at the typical dysfunctional American family, who in this case happens to also be the First Family. Bill Pullman stars as the President, Jenna Elfman is his First Lady and their kids are played by Gad and Superbad's Martha MacIsaac.

Animal Practice, formerly known as Animal Kingdom, stars Weeds' Kirk as a cranky veterinarian who loves his patients, the animals, but hates their owners. Tyler Labine, Amy Huberman and Bobby Lee will co-star in the office-based comedy, from Hangover Part IIwriter Scot Armstrong.

13 promising pilots: Kevin Bacon, Mindy Kaling and more

NBC has now picked up six new series, including five comedies for the new TV season. The other shows include The New Normal, from Glee boss Ryan Murphy, Revolution, fromLostexecutive producer J.J. Abrams,Matthew Perry's comedy Go On and Anne Heche's comedy Save Me.

No word yet on what all the many new comedy pick-ups mean for the several NBC sitcoms currently on the bubble, which include30 Rock, Community, Parks and Recreation, Up All Night, WhitneyandAre You There, Chelsea?

Will you tune into 1600 Penn or Animal Kingdom next season?
