MTV's ‘Awkward' creator lands sexual politics comedy pilot at ABC

Date September 04, 2013

By Jethro Nededog

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Lauren Iungerich has moved into broadcast television with her new comedy pilot, "Damaged Goods," a Warner Bros. Television representative told TheWrap.

The half-hour, single-camera comedy landed a pilot production commitment from ABC with a series penalty, which means the network will have to compensate the producers if it doesn't order the pilot to series.

"Damage Goods" will take a comedic look at how sexual politics have changed between men and women in the post-Feminist era.

Iungerich will executive produce and write the pilot produced by Warner Bros. TV.

This is Iungerich's first broadcast deal after landing "Awkward" at MTV, as well as the comedy pilot, "Hot Mess," which follows a woman caught between her ex and her current boyfriend, as well as her circle of college friends.

Iungerich has since left both projects at MTV citing creative and personal reasons. The cable network later named Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler ( "90210," "Cashmere Mafia," "Are You There, Chelsea?" and "Reba") as the new "Awkward" showrunners in August.
