According to 'New York Magazine,' Goodman is joining Greendale Community College as the "new vice dean of its heretofore unexplored school of air conditioning repair."
He will appear in at least six episodes of the upcoming Season 3, starting with the season opener.
Goodman's character will reportedly become a major enemy of both Dean Pelton (played by newly promoted series regular Jim Rash) and the study group.
Series creator Dan Harmon said that "When I heard we were going after Goodman, I got really excited about the idea of Jim Rash and Goodman on camera together." He's not the only one!
So why the rivalry between the deans? Harmon says it's to do with status and prestige. "The Greendale Community College only has one part of it that is actually nationally renowned, and it's their air conditioning repair program. And it's sort of a separate annex on the campus that puts itself above the rest of the school, and ironically has more power than the campus itself."
An NBC representative confirmed Goodman's addition to the cast, adding that his character's last name is Laybourne.
News of Goodman's casting comes in the wake of reports that 'The Wire' and 'Boardwalk Empire' star Michael Kenneth Williams is also stopping by Greendale this season. Williams is slated to play Professor Kane, a biologist who'll appear in at least three episodes.
'Community' Season 3 premieres Thursday, Sept. 22, 8PM ET on NBC.
