According to Deadline, Menzel is in final negotiations to return to the Fox series for up to 10-12 episodes. Looks like Ryan Murphy is doing a little hedging on his "no guest stars in Season 3" edict.

"I'm really excited that Idina is joining the family again," 'Glee' co-creator Murphy said. "We missed her last year and we're happy that she is coming back."

Viewers will remember Menzel as Shelby Corcoran, Rachel Berry's biological mom and coach of rival group Vocal Adrenaline. The character was last seen adopting Puck and Quinn's baby, Beth.

Look for Shelby to move back to Lima, Ohio after some time in New York. She'll be a new teacher at McKinley High School, causing drama for both her former flame Will and Rachel.

Season 3 will be the last for Rachel (Lea Michele). The character, along a few others, is graduating. Could a spin-off be in her future? Fox is mum on the topic, but it's a possibility. Season 2 ended with Rachel and Kurt (Chris Colfer) discussing their post-graduation plans: Moving to New York to pursue their dreams of fame.

When 'Glee' returns on Tues., Sept. 20 at 8PM, the cast will be even bigger. Darren Criss and Harry Shum Jr. have officially been upped from guest star status and will appear as series regulars.
