LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - HBO has placed an order for a dramedy starring Jonathan Groff ("Glee") that centers on a group of gay men living in San Francisco.

The as-yet untitled series, which has received an eight-episode order, will follow "Three friends in San Francisco explore the fun and sometimes overwhelming options available to a new generation of gay men."

Andrew Haigh ("Weekend") directed the pilot and is executive producing, with Michael Lannan ("Remember Me") writing and co-executive producing.

Sarah Condon and David Marshall Grant are also executive producing.

In addition to Groff - who also appears in HBO's adaptation of the Larry Kramer play "The Normal Heart," from "Glee" boss Ryan Murphy - the dramedy will star Frankie J. Alvarez ("Smash") and Murray Bartlett ("Guiding Light").

On Monday, news broke that the network had ordered "Criminal Justice," starring "Sopranos" alum James Gandolfini, as a limited series order.
