GCB's Leslie Bibb on Gone with the Wind, Nudity and Her Southern Roots

Date April 07, 2012

Leslie Bibb

For the women of GCB, the most important book is obviously the Bible. But for many real Southern women, both past and present, there's also the testament of Scarlett O'Hara.

"I feel like if you're a girl in the South, you know Gone with the Wind better than anything," Leslie Bibb, who plays GCB's Amanda, tells TVGuide.com. "Scarlett O'Hara is such a quintessential Southern woman." So it only makes sense that when Charlene (Kristin Chenoweth) and Ripp (David James Elliott) decide to renew their vows on the first of two new GCB episodes airing Sunday (9/8c on ABC), they'll go with Gone with the Wind-themed nuptials for the big day.

What is a little more puzzling is that Charlene has chosen her biggest rival, Amanda, to be her maid of honor. Of course, Charlene will put Amanda through the ringer as her right-hand-woman. "Let's just say it involves a little nudity," Bibb teases. "When you see it you'll be laughing your butt off."

Surprisingly or not, Charlene's brother — and Amanda's new love interest — Luke (Eric Winter) is at least partly to blame for Amanda's new matron of honor duties. "He's going to be around," Bibb says. "You have no idea how thick the plot is going to get."

Luke will also play a big role when Pastor Tudor instructs all the committed couples to have sex for one week. "It's really cool to see all of the couples connect with their other halves," Bibb says. "And then you have Amanda, who hasn't had sex probably in a long time."

Amanda's homework assignment from Pastor Tudor arrives just as she signs up to be his new assistant. But just because she's working at the church doesn't mean she'll be retiring the Boobylicious booty shorts anytime soon. After all, she's got two kids to raise. "I love that there's no part of her that thinks 'I'm better than that.' She's just trying to make it work," Bibb says. "She doesn't claim to have the answers to anything. She screws up constantly."

It's Amanda's tenacity that Bibb says make her so relatable. "My dad died when I was three so my mom had to raise four kids on her own, and I think there's a part of me that pulls upon having watched my mom do that our whole lives. She had to make it work," Bibb says. "For Amanda it's like being a cat on a hot tin roof. She always lands on her feet.

"I've grown up around really strong, really funny Southern women my whole life and I feel really lucky to be in this with [executive producer] Bobby Harling because he loves Southern women," she says.

GCB airs back-to-back episodes on Sunday at 9/8c and 10/9c on ABC.
