Perez played 11 seasons in the major leagues, beginning with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1980 and ending with The New York Yankees in 1991. During his time on the mound, Perez also played for the Atlanta Braves and the Montreal Expos and was named an All-Star in 1983. During his career, Perez amassed a 67-68 record and 822 strikeouts. However, during his career he was also suspended twice for drug use — once in 1984 and again in 1992, after which he never returned to baseball.
