First Look: Christian Slater Delivers the Goods on Phineas and Ferb

Date April 23, 2012

Phineas and Ferb

Christian Slater is breaking into Phineas and Ferb, starring as "Paul the Delivery Man" on a new episode of the hit animated Disney Channel series this Friday. In the segment, titled "Delivery of Destiny," Paul discovers a higher calling as he manages to save Danville via stops at Phineas and Ferb's house, the Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc. skyscraper and the Organization Without a Cool Acronym (OWCA).

Accompanying Slater's character is the Tri-State Area's own heavy metal rock gods, Love Handel, who perform nine different songs (moving the narrative along in the vein of a Greek chorus). "It was a fun idea for an episode, and so different from what we've done," says executive producer Dan Povenmire (who also plays the wannabe evil genius Dr. Doofenshmirtz). "It was either going to be really fun or just crash and burn, but we're very pleased with how it all turned out. We wrote nine really short songs in one night for Love Handel to play."

Povenmire says the producers were eager to get a recognizable voice for Paul the Delivery Man, and Slater easily fit the bill. "It's a juicy role," he adds. Fellow executive producer Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, who provides the voice of the OWCA's Major Monogram, says Slater was familiar with Phineas and Ferb thanks to his kids, who are fans of the show. "He's got such a great voice, and when we asked him, he knew all about the show," Marsh says. "And it's a really long role. We usually don't get to spend that much time with people who do guest voices." Slater even stuck around to watch other actors voice their characters.

The episode, which premieres Friday, April 27 at 8:30 p.m., also includes the second segment "Buford Confidential," guest starring Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years) as Josette and Colette, visiting Fireside Girls from France. Together, they help Isabella capture an American Grizzly Bear. "Besides being a math genius, she speaks French," Povenmire says of McKellar.

Slater most recently starred on Fox's Breaking In, which was recently pulled from the schedule. Here's a preview of Slater saving the day on Phineas and Ferb.
