Now Welliver is returning to the FX fold for the pilot 'Powers,' which is currently shooting in Chicago. 'Powers,' which is based on a Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming comic book, stars Jason Patric and Lucy Punch as detectives who investigate crimes involving people with superhuman abilities.
Welliver has been cast as Triphammer in 'Powers,' and if the pilot gets picked up to series, his role will be recurring.
Triphammer is described by the network as both "a genius and a narcissist," a combination of Steve Jobs and Donald Trump. He's not just a powerful force in his own right, he has invented technology that can both bestow and remove superhuman abilities.
In 'Powers,' Patric plays homicide detective Christian Walker, Punch plays his partner, Deena Pilgrim and Charles S. Dutton plays their boss, Captain Cross. The pilot was written by Charles H. Eglee, a veteran of 'The Shield,' and it's being directed by 'Justified' executive producer Michael Dinner.
We won't know until later in the year whether 'Powers' will go to series, but FX did give a series order to another pilot earlier today -- the network announced that it has picked up Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's new show, 'American Horror Story,' which stars Jessica Lange, Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. Hmm, could that be the project that FX is allegedly screening at Comic-Con on Saturday? I wonder...
