However, according to the creators of the Glenn Close-fronted series, they're not done planning for Patty Hewes (Close) and Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne).
"The show isn't necessarily ending at Season 5, we're not sure about that," 'Damages' executive producer and co-creator Todd A. Kessler told AOL TV at the 'Damages' premiere. "In terms of the Patty and Ellen storyline, there is a story to be told."
The main story for Season 5 is still being figured out, but the wheels are churning for even future seasons. "The show has a great life and great potential even beyond the fifth season," Kessler said. "There could be a Season 6, with Patty and Ellen."
As for this season, viewers pick up with Patty and Ellen three years after Season 3. Patty is raising her granddaughter while continuing to be a tough-as-nails attorney and Ellen is working at Hollis Nye's firm -- viewers will remember she turned his offer down in the first episode -- and is in a relationship.
"Patty and Ellen meet roughly once a week or once every couple of weeks to discuss the cases that they're trying," Kessler said. "They kind of have come to a mutual appreciation for each other and respect for each other and we will turn all of that on its head in the fourth season."
John Goodman joins the cast as a ruthless head of a defense company with stakes in the Middle East. Dylan Baker plays his right-hand man and Chris Messina is a friend of Ellen's and former employee of Goodman's Howard Erickson character.
Now that the show is on DirecTV, expect some more violence, harsher language and nudity.
"Not that we want to do [nudity, violence and language] gratuitously or are going to do it gratuitously," co-creator Daniel Zelman said, "but, especially this season because our storyline is a military story, there are times where we're really able to tell that story the way we want to and add a little more violence to it. Also in terms of the new characters coming on, they have the full range of language they can turn to in expressing themselves and that's been pretty exciting for us."
'Damages' Season 4 premieres July 13 at 10PM on DirecTV. The Season 3 DVD hits the streets July 11.
