California Chrome, Victor Espinoza
California Chrome won the 140th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs Saturday.
California Chrome, who was favored to win 2-1, spent most of the race in third place, until pulling far ahead of the competition in the home stretch. The winning horse was ridden by Victor Espinoza, who previously won the Derby in 2002, and trained by Art Sherman, who, at 77, became the oldest trainer to win the Derby.
The 140th Derby saw its second largest attendance of all time, with 164,906 fans watching the big race.
