Alexa Ray Joel
Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, had quite a scare during a performance in New Yorkon Saturday. The singer-songwriter collapsed on stage at Café Carlyle before a sold-out audience and had to be rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital, People reports.
Joel was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, a condition that causes sudden drops in blood pressure and heart rate and prevents blood from properly flowing to the brain. Joel's reps said that the singer had not been feeling well prior to her show. The condition requires no further treatment, and Joel is on the mend.
"I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support me," Joel, 28, said in a statement. "I was excited and determined to fulfill my final performance and I really wanted to end my run with a bang, but this was not what I had in mind and hope I have the opportunity to make it up to the wonderful audience very soon."
Saturday's show was the final performance in a two-week run for Joel at the venue.
